21 Days Before Move Day

Start looking for moving company quotes and make your selection and booking. This is also the time to start decluttering. The decluttering process can be done room by room — a good rule of thumb is to get rid of anything you haven't used in the last year. Getting rid of old items will make packing and moving a lot easier.

If you're moving to a different city, look into the schools and school districts, and the healthcare providers, in your new city.

21 Days to 14 Days Before Move Day

Continue packing, focusing on items you don't use often, like off-season clothes and books. Decor can also be packed at this time.

Labeling boxes with the rooms they belong to will also help the people helping you move and the people receiving the boxes at the new house.

14 Days to 7 Days Before Move Day

Collect all the IDs, address proofs, and utility bill copies you will need to transfer your services.

7 Days to Move Day

Contact your service providers and schedule disconnection for one day after your move. Schedule connections at your new place prior to move-in day.

Confirm your moving details and any requests for building access (such as lift and/or parking) with both your current and new building management.

On Your Moving Day

Set aside a bag with essential items — you'll need this throughout the day and won't have time to look through boxes to find these things.

Once the movers arrive to take the essentials, do a thorough check of all cupboards and other hidden areas.

After You've Relocated

Have the movers' supervisor review an inventory of your items with you. The supervisor should review each item to ensure it's present and not damaged.

Let your bank and employer know your new address, and cancel or change any subscriptions.
